Set up your SEO profile
Your SEO profile tells CataSEO how to write for your store — what voice to use, what language to write in, how long descriptions should be, and what to mention or avoid. Setting this up is the most important thing you can do for output quality.
What’s on the profile
CataSEO stores these settings per store:
- Language — the locale your products are written in (default: English /
en-US). - Tone of voice — how CataSEO writes. Pick from the presets or set a custom tone.
- Brand guidelines — free-text instructions specific to your brand.
- Description length — Short (~150 words), Medium (~250 words), or Long (~400 words).
- Description format — mix of text and bullet points, continuous text only, bullet points only, or a narrative-plus-features-plus-specifications structure.
- Skip inactive products — whether to optimize products that aren’t currently published.
Language
Pick the language your storefront writes in. CataSEO will generate all output in that locale. If you sell in multiple languages on the same store, contact support — multi-locale support is being rolled out.
Tone of voice
The tone preset shapes voice and style. If none of the presets fit, choose Custom Tone and describe the voice you want in plain English (for example: “warm and informal, like a knowledgeable friend”).
Brand guidelines
This is the most powerful field on the profile. Use it for the things presets can’t capture:
- “Always mention sustainability when materials allow it.”
- “Talk like a pirate.”
- “Never use the word ‘cheap’ — use ‘affordable’ or ‘great value’ instead.”
- “Mention our 30-day return policy in every description.”
These guidelines apply to every optimization until you change them.
Description length and format
Match these to what works on your storefront. Short descriptions perform well for browse pages; long, structured descriptions help product pages with rich detail rank better. If you’re not sure, start with Medium and Mix of text and bullets.
Save and apply
Profile changes apply to new optimizations only. Already-optimized and already-approved products keep their existing copy. To re-optimize products against a new profile, run a new batch or use the “re-optimize pending” workflow.
FAQ
Can I have different SEO profiles for different stores? Yes — each connected store has its own profile.
What happens to already-optimized products if I change the profile? They stay as they are. New optimizations use the updated profile. Re-run optimization on the products you want to refresh.
Is the profile used for categories and brands too, or only products? The profile applies across products, categories, and brands — same voice and language everywhere.
Can I export my profile to share between stores? Not yet a one-click feature. Contact support if you need this — we can copy a profile between stores on request.
